Sewing for Success

Sewing for Success began on Friday, October 2, 2026 and runs for 10 weeks. This hands-on training initiative introduces the women we serve to foundational sewing and garment construction skills. In partnership with Kevin Smith, Founder & Lead Educator at Trade & Fashion Academy Las Vegas, clients receive practical instruction in both the technical and creative aspects of sewing and apparel production.
Throughout the program, students are introduced to the mechanics and operation of a sewing machine, including machine setup, safety, maintenance, and proper handling techniques. The women also learn how to read and use sewing patterns, gaining an understanding of garment layout, measurements, and fabric preparation.
Instruction focuses on beginning sewing techniques such as:
- Basic stitching methods
- Hemming techniques
- Buttonhole construction
- Fabric handling and assembly
- Garment finishing practices
As part of the hands-on learning experience, participants work on two wearable garment projects:
- A pair of boxer shorts
- A button-down shirt
